New House/future studio

Recently relocated to Wellsville...We purchased a one story bungalow style house that will eventually be the site of my new studio and office. This is the space that will become studio and gallery space for sheilalynnkart...
After completing my business plan through the entrepreneurial assistance program at ACCORD corporation I am working with VESID and the Independent Living Center to determine the feasibility of financing the Prone Works Table that will be crucial to successful self employment...While I am waiting I am working on the final series of paintings for the facing phases series and finishing up projects from Sherman Street.

Facing Phases at Exposed Series Exhibition June - December 2010

Facing Phases (photography, paper sculpture, acrylics on stretched canvas) is a series of images documenting the ebb and flow of personal engagement with life. The viewer is strongly encouraged to confront each stage of change directly with the knowledge that this too shall pass. Face each phase as it comes. Take the time to know the character of each for you will inevitably see it again. Change influences perspective. Awareness of the perspective gives one the power to change perception

Works from the Facing Phases Series (2009) will be on display at a variety of host sites in the Southern Tier during the Eposed Series Rotating Exhibit from June - December 2010
Works shown-
Still Standing Installation-paper sculpture and photography (phases of coping with chronic pain)
Sheila's Sherman Street Garden - digital photography (phases of the life cycle from my own garden)
(the paintings for this series are in progress at the studio)

FEATURED ARTIST- Wendy Skinner

Wendy Skinner
As proprietor of Signs & Wonders Studio in Belmont, New York, Wendy Skinner is known mostly for her sign work distinguishing businesses, entrances to villages, churches, schools, and homes throughout Allegany County and the Twin Tiers areas. Wendy also is an award-winning pen-and-ink, and colored-pencil artist, with art in public and private collections throughout the United States. Her latest work in progress is the creation of The Fountain Arts Center.

The Fountain Arts Center at The Belmont
In 2000, The Fountain Arts Center, Inc., purchased the former Belmount Hotel to create an arts center, and to provide opportunities in the arts. The first priority of the Fountain Arts Center (a not-for-profit organization) is to bolster the moral of the community by saving the building in which its organization is housed. This being done in phases, as funding allows. The blighting influence of some deteriorated sections of the structure are slowly but steadily being replaced.
Private investment has led to the transformation of two commercial storefronts in the facility into an artist studio, sign shop, and gallery. New York Main Street Grant Funding, matched by private donations, and local grant awards has helped to complete the rehabilitation of a third storefront into a performance/class/seminar area for arts awareness. Future grant funding and development is geared toward addressing structural needs into other areas of the facility, while providing arts education in completed areas.

Since the opening of the Community Room in 2001, The Fountain Arts Center has hosted dozens of solo and group shows for regional artists, ranging from photography to fiber arts, colored pencil to oil painting, ceramics, and metal sculpture. With partial funding from the New York State Council for the Arts Decentralization Grant, it has offered scores of classes through its Family Enrichment Series, Visual Artists Workshops, and Summer Arts Programs for Youth. The establishment of The Net in 2006, added a performance and music education venue for the center as well.

Featured Artist

Tim Burton at MOMA until April 2010

My daughters and I went to see this amazing collection of works at MOMA over the weekend.
The online representation is good but nothing beats seeing it all in person. If you have the opportunity to see this show don't miss it.
This is truly a case of quality and quantity in one location. Although I do not know much about his personal biography I suspect that somewhere along the way and art teacher told him to continue using this as a tool to express himself. All it takes is one voice of encouragement. (I am sure there were many who opposed his particular form of expression.)
