Winners were announced last night at closing events at SheilaLynnK Art Studio in Wellsville.

One of the biggest lessons I have learned since my spinal cord injury is that survival is all about adaptability and adaptability is about balance and adjusting the SIZE of our expectations.
This Event was just the right size to reasonably accommodate this phase of my recovery. More importantly, I was fortunate enough to meet members of our community with a genuine affection for the arts who displayed a generous sense of spirit during this new adventure.
I am encouraged by the enthusiasm shown by visitors and participants alike.

We are all looking forward to using this experience to inform SWAN Day Allegany County, NY 2017 which will include an expanded Calendar of creative events hosted by local Women Artists during the Months of March and April 2017.

Submissions to be listed on that 2017 Calendar can be made via the studio contact information.
Deadline for inclusion is Feb 5, 2017.  Listing is FREE. Donations are welcome.

Our county has so much to offer in the area of Natural Assets, The Arts, and the ways in which both contribute to Sustainable Independent Creative Wellness.

Open to Women Artists working in ALL genres of the Written, Visual and Performing Art; This event will grow as my contribution to the local  "Destination Wellsville/Allegany County" initiative in direct proportion to the participation and support received.
SWAN Day is an International Event to Support Women In the Arts.
Allegany County, NY is now included on their international calendar of Art Events and as a Featured Event on the WomenArts Blog in Berkeley, CA distributed to an international audience.
Anyone interested in becoming a sponsor for SWAN Day Allegany County NY Activities can do so online HERE.
Again, Thanks so much to all who displayed support and interest and provided coverage of this year's SWAN Day Allegany County NY activities.
Wishing All of you a low pain day.

Busy Days without "Busy-Ness"

SWAN Days Allegany County NY Art Show
and Sale Opening Reception  Album

SWAN Days Allegany County NY Activities
Apparently still unable to limit myself to the simplicity of One Task at a Time; This "event" became a combination of a series of Events which are teaching me so much about my aptitudes, abilities, and limitations.

An interesting side effect, as I am discovering what local interests are supported by these events, is that I am also accidentally assessing my own interests.  Although it may not be the easiest, most efficient, and stress-free way to do it; this is definitely one way to isolate what really "lights me up".  What type of public interaction and community activities feed my creativity and What type of actions accommodate my "limitations" are important factors in determining the ways in which I function best in the world.
This is a crash course in the area of self discovery.

AND.... The gallery is FINALLY open!
It has been wonderful to have work by other local women artists on the walls here. Entrusted with this diverse collection of works; I am treated to the privilege of their creative light inside of my bubble.
The SWAN Day Show will be Open to the Public right here in MY gallery (woohoo! happy dance!) until April 1st. Awards will be announced at 6pm and the art work will be picked up by April 2nd.

On March 19th I also hosted my first Creative Wellness Circle at the studio. This was such an uplifting and healing experience. I will be doing another one on April 7th. There are no pre-requisites. The Circle is FREE to any women who would like to join our quest for Wellness and Unity.
I am new to the SisterCircle Facilitator role. For now, I will be trying out the model presented by the Global Sisterhood at UNIFY. From Holistic and Alternative Practices combined with my own  Creative Wellness Activities and Meditation; it is my hope that this method will facilitate the development of a circle that helps each participant find a path to Wellness which best serves her needs.

New Year, Same Me

During the transition from one year to the next, in this sea of intangible products; I still need reminders of my resources. At this point, I am pretty sure that is a pattern which will never change.

So, once again I am joining, Creative Entrepreneur,  Lisa Sonora's 2016  Art Journal project... which launched yesterday.)
If you've been following, you'll know that I have gotten in the habit of using this process and other art journal/biz discovery projects to help me clarify my work, motivate myself, and even (sometimes) to develop a better marketing plan for my business.
Although it is usually a private process these days, I will be sharing some of those discoveries with my Patrons this month.

I will also be trying something new...
PAINTING EVERY DAY FOR 20 DAYS...which I have actually done before...
However, THIS TIME, it will be a NEW painting Every Day and Each One will be FOR SALE. I will be tweeting these works in progress @sheilalynnkart. Follow me there for free to see what comes up and where to buy it.

More Making

Guitar Stand From Remnants of BIG Art Projects
MORE Re-Purposed Remnants
The flash is making the painted parts look dark grey. They are actually more of a dark brown. "Labrador" is the name the mix is given at Lowe's.

I had a few pieces left...my boyfriend needs a guitar stand to keep it safe from studio escapades...couldn't figure out what to get him for Christmas...AND Voila! Decision Made.

Organic Streaks; Hair Art

Chemical Free Hair Care since August 8, 2015
Home Grown and Home Made ~Buck Thorn Berry Ink plus Black Walnut Hull Powder
The Quest to Incorporate Ancient Wisdom into my Modern Life Continues.
I think I may have finally found a way to simultaneously appease my vanity AND my immune system!
This particular aspect of the Quest is all about being Human, Naturally and the adverse effects of NOT doing that.

After searching through many assorted local wild things, I have landed on a combination of Buckthorn Berry Ink (berries harvested after first frost), home-dried and ground black walnut powder, and home-harvested and made Elderberry Syrup in a coconut oil base with Apple Cider Vinegar to help retain the color.

It's a lot of work for a short-lived outcome but, it is ALL natural... and kind of fun in a weird, I-am-stubbornly-determined-to-find-a-solution-to-this-question-without-being-forced-to-reside-in-the-margins-of-society kind of way.
